Snapshot: DuBose had one of the most unlikely rises in this draft class. He scarcely played as a freshman at Division II Miles College in 2019 and spent 2020 working multiple jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. He joined Charlotte in the summer of 2021, eventually putting himself on the map with 63 receptions, nine for touchdowns, in 2022. He then entered the transfer portal before declaring for the draft, swiftly earning an invite to the Senior Bowl.
Positives: Good size with a wide catch radius and a frame that could hold more weight if needed. Smooth lateral mover who can slip past press. Good blend of quickness and explosiveness out of his steps. Able to contort and adjust for misplaced passes. High points the ball effectively. Impressive stop and start for his size to throw off DBs with his timing. Trusts his hands and catches passes away from his body. Size and strength function well as a blocker.
Negatives: Not sure what to do when the play breaks down and will be late to seek space to give his passer an outlet. Athleticism is adequate but not likely to stand out at the NFL level. Will have a hard time separating vertically.
NFL Comp: Cody Latimer, Orlando Guardians (XFL) - Slow-rolling receivers who rely on their hands and size usually don't draw high picks, but Latimer managed to land in the 2014 second round thanks to his unique contested-catch ability. DuBose is lighter and not likely to go as high, but his reliable hands and body control make him an appealing mid-round target.
