The right-hander will be shut down for a few weeks and is scheduled to begin the season on the injured list.
Analysis: McCullers said the MRI showed no structural damage to his forearm or elbow and he remains hopeful he won't miss too much time once the season begins. He did miss a large part of last season with a forearm strain, however, so the Astros may proceed very cautiously with his rehab.
